Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge Awards Cash Prizes
The votes are in and prizes are ready to be handed out at the second annual Triangle Christmas Teee Challenge in Durham's American Tobacco Campus.Fifty-nine nonprofits decorated Christmas trees at Diamond View Park in hopes of winning one of nine prizes.
The Tree Challenge web site attracted more than a quarter million views, and 20,000 votes poured in online and via text.
Now it's time to unveil the nonprofit winners of that massive vote as well as the recipients of our special judges' awards.
Taking the $1,000 the Tree Challenge Third Prize is the Ivy Community Service Foundation.
Taking the $2,500 Second Prize is the Coalition to Unchain Dogs.
And with the most votes, taking the $5,000 First Prize is Safe Haven for Cats.
Nonprofits also vied for special judges' awards.
The Wool E. Bull Prime Cut Award goes to the Salvation Army of Wake County.
The FOX50 Community First Award goes to Trosa.
The DPAC Community Star Award goes to the Healing Place.
Three Celebrity Choice Awards go to the Durham Economic Resource Center, The Scrap Exchange and Trips for Kids.
The trees are on display at American Tobacco until Jan. 2, 2012.
