What happens to the trees after the contest is over?

The trees are mulched and the mulch is donated to SEEDS, a Durham, NC community educational garden that “teaches respect for life, for the earth and for each other through gardening and growing food”.

How do I vote online?
  • Scroll through the entries and click on the tree you wish to vote on
  • You may also use the search button at the bottom right of the website to find your tree (you can search by nonprofit name or tree number)
How do I vote by text? / I'm getting a "campaign is now closed" message when I text my vote.
  • Create a new text message to 25827
  •  Enter tree SPACE ## in the body of your text message (for example, to vote for Tree entry number 1, type tree 1)
  • Note that there is a space between tree and the one or two digit number
  • If you texted and received a message that the “campaign is now closed”, the most common cause of this error message is the additional space between the word “tree” and the number of the tree you are trying to vote for
Is there a limit to how many times I can vote?

Voting is allowed once per user per day and once per mobile phone number via text message per day.

How many times can I vote by text or online?

Voting is allowed once a day, per user, per device.

Can I change my vote?

Yes. You are allowed one vote per calendar day. Only the last vote cast in a given day is recorded. So if you change your mind, simply click VOTE on another tree and your vote will only be logged once.

How many times can I vote by text?

When is the 2017 voting period?

Voting opens at 7 p.m. (estimated) on Friday, December 1, 2017 and continues until Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.

 

When are the 2017 winners announced?

The 2017 Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge winners will be announced on or around Sunday, December 17, 2017 during WRAL’s 10:00 News on FOX 50.

When do the trees get lit?

The 2016 Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge lighting coincides with the lighting of the American Tobacco Water Tower on Friday, December 2, 2016. The Tower will be lit between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the trees will follow at 7 p.m. (at which time, voting will open, too). Parking is available in the South Deck for $5. Diamond View Park at American Tobacco is adjacent to the DPAC and Durham Bulls Athletic Park – search for 318 Blackwell Street in your maps app or GPS to get directions to this year’s lighting event.

Where are the Trees located?

The trees are lit from 5 – 11 pm daily starting on December 2 and ending on January 1. Google Address: 318 Blackwell Street, Durham, NC 27701 (Corner of Blackwell and Vivian Street)
